Champions League: Manchester City Keep Atletico At Bay. Liverpool Thrash Benfica In UCL Quarter Final | CL Review

UCL Quarter Final: Atletico Madrid did not have a single shot on target, nor did they create a big goal threat. Read match analysis below.

Champions League: Liverpool defeated Benfica by 1-3 away from home while Manchester City held Atletico at home. Although Liverpool vs Benfica looks like a done deal with three away goals for the reds, nothing can be said for certain. 

On the other hand, Atletico Madrid did not have a single shot on target, nor did they create a big goal threat. Despite the scoreline being 1-0, it was a disaster for Atletico Madrid. Here are some of the numbers from MCI vs ATM:

From the above stats, we can see that Atletico's expected goals were just 0.08, which is extremely low for a Champions League QF side. Even the possession was dominated by City by 70-30.

Liverpool VS Benfica was not as one-sided as one would have imagined it to be. Benfica managed to pull one goal back after Liverpool scored two. Unfortunately for the home side, Liverpool scored again to make the scoreline 1-3.

Benfica had 34% possession while 9 total shots at goal. The second leg of both these matches will be played on April 14, 2022.

The biggest match of the quarter-final stage will be played today. Chelsea will face Real Madrid at their home ground in London. In the second match tonight, Villareal will face Bayern Munich. Both these matches will be played at 12:30 am on Thursday.
