BWF World Championships 2019: Sindhu, Saina In Action In Round 2 After Receiving Opening Rd Byes
On Day 3 of the Championships, the women shuttlers will be seen in action with PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal playing their respective second round encounters in the women's singles discipline.
Indian shuttler continued their good run in the BWF World Championships at Basel on second day of the premier event as both HS Prannoy and B Sai Praneeth won their second round encounters in the men's singles category. While. HS Prannoy stunned two-time Olympic and five-time world champion Lin Dan in a hard-fought match, Sai Praneeth registered a clinical win over South Korea's Lee Dong Keun to enter the pre-quarterfinals.
In the pre-quarterfinals, Prannoy faces a stern task as he is up against World No.1 and top seed Kento Momota of Japan.
India's top male shuttler Kidambi Srikanth will begin his campaign by playing against Isreal's Misha Zilberman. The World No 10 will take on the unseeded Israeli in the second round after surviving a scare against Nhat Nguyen in the opening round.
On Day 3 of the Championships, the women shuttlers will be seen in action with PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal playing their respective second round encounters in the women's singles discipline. 2017 Finalist Sidhu shall be taking on Chinese Taipei’s Pai Yu Po after receiving a first-round bye. Pai had beaten Linda Zetchiri 21-18, 21-17 in her opening round encounter. Sindhu shall go into the encounter as the clear favourite owing to being the more consistent player and having a better head to head record against her opponent.
Saina Nehwal, who like her Indian counterpart Sindhu, had an opening round bye, will take on Netherlands’ Soraya de Visch Eijbergen. The Dutch player had beaten Sabrina Jaquet 21-17, 21-15 in the first round.It will be the first encounter between two players on the World Tour.
