National Science Day 2022: Theme
This year, the theme of National Science Day is 'Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future'.
Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of Science and Technology, launched this year's theme of National Science Day in January. Singh highlighted that a four-fold integrated approach in Science and Technology for a sustainable future will help us come out of our culture of working in silos, according to a statement issued by the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
The idea of this four-fold integrated approach was suggested by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to play a leading role in the global arena, the statement said.
Singh said that the four-fold approach would consist of integration of all the scientific departments which can work on a theme-based approach. These are:
- Extended scientific intervention encompassing engineering
- Medical and other institutions
- Extra scientific integration involving identification of the needs of other ministries like Jal Shakti, Railways, among others
- Extended science driven all inclusive approach integrating startups and industry.
Quoting Singh, the statement said that this is the best time to give a push to this integrative approach as all the ministries and departments have come together to work for the survival of humanity at the time of the pandemic crisis.
Singh further said that it is time to sustain this spirit and National Science Day will be the occasion to take a pledge for this and work with the integrated approach. One must work with the integrated approach for sustaining livelihoods, sustaining human life, and for India to emerge as a leader in science, according to Singh.
Dr Srivari Chandrasekhar, Secretary, DST, highlighted the importance of National Science Day, and mentioned that schools and colleges across the country will celebrate the occasion of February 28, 2022, based on this theme, according to the statement.
Dr Chandrasekhar emphasised on the importance of science communication, and said that it formed a very crucial part of the new science and innovation policy.
Dr Chandrasekhar highlighted the importance of working on creative science communication across disciplines.
Dr Shekhar C Mande, Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), highlighted the importance of the theme's approach in working across disciplines, according to the statement.
Dr Rajesh Gokhle, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, underlined how all institutions, government, and industry worked together to help India and the world overcome the challenges of the pandemic.
