Aditya L-1 Mission: Spacecraft Healthy, On Its Way to Sun-Earth L1, Says ISRO

ISRO said in a statement that Aditya L-1 Mission spacecraft is healthy and is on its way to Sun-Earth L-1.

The Aditya L-1 Mission spacecraft is healthy and is on its way to Sun-Earth L-1,said the Indian Space Research Organisation in a statement on Sunday. A Trajectory Correction Maneuvre was performed on Friday, for about 16 seconds, it said, adding that the process was needed to correct the trajectory evaluated after tracking the Trans-Lagrangean Point 1 Insertion (TL1I) maneuvre that was performed on September 19.

"Aditya-L1 Mission: The Spacecraft is healthy and on its way to Sun-Earth L1.  A Trajectory Correction Maneuvre (TCM), originally provisioned, was performed on October 6, 2023, for about 16s. It was needed to correct the trajectory evaluated after tracking the Trans-Lagrangean Point 1 Insertion (TL1I) maneuvre performed on September 19, 2023," ISRO said in a post on X.

The Aditya L-1 mission was succesfully executed by ISRO using the PSLV-C57 rocket on September 2.  This advanced spacecraft is equipped with a total of seven different payloads designed to study the Sun including four that are dedicated to observing the light emitted by the Sun, while the remaining three will measure in-situ parameters related to plasma and magnetic fields.

On September 30, the national space agency announced that the Aditya L-1 spacecraft has achieved a significant milestone by venturing beyond a distance of 9.2 lakh kilometers from Earth, successfully escaping Earth's gravitational sphere of influence.

According to ISRO, earlier this month the Aditya-L1 solar mission spacecraft commenced the crucial task of collecting data which would prove significant for the scientists studying the behavior of particles surrounding Earth.

Specifically, the data collected around L1 will provide insights into the origin, acceleration, and anisotropy of solar wind and space weather phenomena.
