What Is Shani Sade Sati?

Before understanding its effects, it is essential to know what Sade Sati actually is. According to the astrologer Aneesh Vyas, Saturn is the slowest-moving planet in astrology. No matter how much one fears Sade Sati, every individual experiences this phase at least once in their lifetime.

Sade Sati lasts for seven and a half years in a person’s life. Since Saturn stays in one zodiac sign for two and a half years, it takes around 30 years to complete a full cycle across all 12 signs. When Saturn transits into a particular sign, Sade Sati begins for individuals belonging to that zodiac sign. However, it also affects the preceding and succeeding signs.

The Three Phases Of Sade Sati

Sade Sati occurs in three phases, each lasting two and a half years:

  • First Phase: The onset of Sade Sati occurs when Saturn enters the zodiac sign preceding an individual’s birth sign. This phase marks the beginning of the seven-and-a-half-year cycle.
  • Second Phase: As Saturn transits into the individual's birth sign, the second phase begins. This middle phase is believed to be the most challenging.
  • Third Phase: When Saturn moves to the next zodiac sign after leaving the birth sign, the final phase of Sade Sati commences. This phase often brings positive outcomes and rewards for past struggles.

Should One Fear Sade Sati?

The mere mention of Sade Sati can cause anxiety, but it is not always negative. Sade Sati is a period of transformation and refinement. The effects of Sade Sati depend on the placement of Saturn in an individual’s birth chart and their karma.

If Saturn is placed in a weak, debilitated, or enemy sign in the horoscope, or positioned in an inauspicious house, its effects during Sade Sati may be challenging. However, if Saturn is well-placed and an individual maintains good karma, this period can bring positive transformations, growth, and success.
