Holashtak is considered inauspicious. In Hindu tradition, 16 types of sacraments are mentioned, none of which should be performed during Holashtak. Know how long Holashtak will last in 2025.

Holashtak 2025: Holashtak, an eight-day period considered inauspicious in Hindu astrology, will begin on March 6, 2025, at 10:51 AM and end on March 14, 2025, at 12:24 PM. This period is believed to bring increased negativity due to planetary influences, affecting decision-making abilities and overall energy levels. It concludes with Holika Dahan, after which the festival of Holi is celebrated on March 13 and 14.

Why Is Holashtak Considered Inauspicious?

According to astrology, during Holashtak, eight planets are in an intense state:

  • Ashtami (8th day): Moon
  • Navami (9th day): Sun
  • Dashami (10th day): Saturn
  • Ekadashi (11th day): Venus
  • Dwadashi (12th day): Jupiter
  • Trayodashi (13th day): Mercury
  • Chaturdashi (14th day): Mars
  • Purnima (Full Moon): Rahu

Due to their negative impact, auspicious ceremonies such as weddings, housewarming, and property purchases are avoided during these eight days. Performing these activities is believed to invite conflicts, separation, financial troubles, or even health issues.

Significance Of Holashtak

Despite being inauspicious for major life events, Holashtak holds religious significance. Devotees worship Lord Vishnu, Lord Hanuman, and Lord Narasimha, believing that prayers during this time can remove obstacles and bring peace. It is also recommended to chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra daily for spiritual protection.

What Should Be Avoided During Holashtak?

  • Weddings and auspicious ceremonies
  • Buying property, vehicles, or starting new ventures
  • Performing Hindu sacraments (Sanskars)
  • Organizing fire rituals (Havan/Yajna), except in unavoidable circumstances
  • Newly married women are traditionally advised to stay at their parental home

  • Maintaining a disciplined lifestyle: The transition in seasons during this period calls for a well-regulated routine and a focus on health.
