It is also said to bless the devotee with the joy of motherhood and ensure the well-being of the family.

How Is Varlakshmi Vrat Observed?

During the vrat, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped with the same grandeur and devotion as during Diwali. The rituals begin with the worship of Lord Ganesha, followed by the offering of dorek (decorative thread) and vayan (a traditional gift offering). Women honor each other as symbolic forms of the Goddess by exchanging sweets, spices, new clothes, and wealth.

Varlakshmi Vrat is observed on the Friday before the full moon in the month of Shravan (Sawan) as per the Hindu calendar. In 2025, it will be celebrated on 8 August.

  • Vrishabha Lagna (Midnight): 11:55 PM (Aug 8) – 01:50 AM (Aug 9)

According to belief, the best time to perform the Lakshmi puja is during Sthir Lagna, which ensures long-lasting prosperity when worship is done during this stable astrological period.

Where Is Varlakshmi Vrat Celebrated?

This vrat is prominently observed by married women in the southern states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

The Importance Of The Yellow Thread In Varlakshmi Vrat

One of the unique elements of this vrat is the tying of the toram or sardu—a sacred yellow thread smeared with turmeric and tied with nine knots. A similar thread is prepared for every woman participating in the ritual and is placed before the goddess during the puja. After the ritual, women wear it on their right wrist as a symbol of divine protection and blessings.
