WATCH: Wild Elephants Stray Into Fields In Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor District
Wild elephants and their calves wander into the fields in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district.
A herd of wild elephants were seen wandering into fields in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. According to an ANI report, the elephants were presumably looking for water and ventured into the fields in Kuppam constituency in search of sustenance. Locals, and wildlife enthusiasts were concerned about the presence of wild elephants in the area.
In the video shared by the news agency ANI, calves were seen walking beside their mothers and other members of the herd, none of the calves strayed as the herd walked in search of water.

Last month, a herd of elephants wreaked havoc in Koonapalli, Pulicherla mandal. The herd damaged the crop fields and wreaked destruction in the villages. As per ANI, the residents who were gripped by fear did not venture outside as the elephants roamed around. The destroyed damage to groundnut fields, coconut trees, mango orchards, and tomato crops.
These incidents serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by communities coexisting with wildlife in the region.
In December 2023, farmers were in a state of panic in places like Krishnapuram, Motlapalli, Javunipalli, Mittur, and others as wild elephants caused extensive damage to the fields. According to ANI, about 13 elephants entered the fields in Venkatagirikota and destroyed crops and mango trees creating huge losses.
The Forest Department had initiated patrols with animal trackers to monitor and address the potential threat posed by the advancing elephant herd. Residents were also advised not to venture outside their homes.
