Land-For-Jobs Scam: CBI Informs Delhi Court It Will File Concluding Chargesheet In Two Weeks

The land-for-jobs case is listed for hearing on March 14.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed Delhi's Rouse Avenue court on Tuesday that it will file a concluding chargesheet in the land-for-jobs case within two weeks, news agency ANI reported. The case involving former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, and their son Tejashwi Yadav, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar is listed for hearing on March 14.

The case is related to suspected appointments in the Indian Railways in return for the transfer of land to Lalu Prasad Yadav's family while he was Union Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009.

In October of last year, Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi, and Tejashwi Yadav in connection with the alleged land-for-jobs scheme. They appeared in the CBI special court after the summons issued against them.

On July 3, the CBI filed a fresh chargesheet against Lalu and others. The chargesheet referred to "irregular/ illegal appointments of candidates in the Central Railways, violating the norms, guidelines, and procedure of railways."

The agency said that the chosen candidates, either directly or through immediate relatives or family members, sold land to Lalu Yadav's family at a discount of one-fourth to one-fifth of the current market price.

The CBI further accused the RJD head of forming a "criminal conspiracy" with his wife Rabri Devi, daughter Misa Bharati, Central Railway staff, and others.

The chargesheet, registered on July 3, was the second in the case. Tejashwi Yadav was not named as an accused in the initial charge sheet. Along with the three family members, the central investigation agency named 14 persons and companies in the charge sheet. The case was registered in May 2022.
