Himanta Vs Gaurav: Cong MP Shares Tarun Gogoi's 'Backstabber' Remark Clip After Assam CM's Claim On 'Tall Leader'

Gaurav Gogoi uploaded an old video of his late father in which the former CM talked about Sarma as someone who touched his feet and backstabbed him at the same time.

New Delhi: The war of words continued between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday over the latter's allegation that Sarma's wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma has taken a Rs 10 crore central subsidy for her company.

It took an ugly turn when Assam CM in a social media post said, “During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, one of Assam’s tallest politicians experienced post-Covid complications. We advised his family to transfer him to Delhi for better treatment, with the state government covering the expenses. However, his distinguished son refused to take the patient to Delhi."

He was believed to be referring to former Assam chief minister and Gaurav Gogoi’s father who died at Gauhati Medical College Hospital in 2021 following post-Covid complications.

Reacting to this post, Gaurav Gogoi uploaded an old video of his late father in which the former CM talked about Sarma as someone who touched his feet and backstabbed him at the same time.

"I feel sorry for you and I wish you well. Sharing my late father's Tarun Gogoi's viral video https://youtu.be/8lblKM7YXgc?si=phPGSjpk77XQiIi5 In this video he said 'I have never met a person who could touch my feet and put a dagger in my back at the same time (in Assamese)," tweeted Gogoi.

Notably, before joining the BJP in 2015, Himanta Biswa Sarma was in Congress and was considered as Tarun Gogoi's most trusted lieutenant.

Earlier in the day, Sharma's wife said that she would file a Rs 10 crore defamation case against Gaurav Gogoi. "In the present case, pertaining to the PM Kisan Sampada Scheme, Pride East Entertainments Pvt. Ltd has neither claimed or received a single paisa of government subsidy, despite meeting all the eligible criteria," Riniki Bhuyan Sarma posted on X.

On Wednesday, Gaurav Gogoi alleged that Assam CM used his influence to get government subsidies for his wife’s company. He accused Himanta's wife of receiving Rs 10 crore credit-linked subsidy under the ‘Kisan Sampada scheme’ for her company.

However, Sarma has repeatedly refuted any claims of receiving subsidies from the Central government.
