Yamaha Saluto Range Launched With Combined Braking Setup

Both the Saluto RX and the Saluto 125 feature what Yamaha calls a ‘Unified Braking System’

• Yamaha’s Unified Braking System (UBS) is essentially a combined braking setup
• This feature allows partial application of the front brake when the rear one is applied completely.
• The Saluto 125 gets this feature in both front disc and drum variants

In a bid to prepare for upcoming safety norms, Yamaha India has launched the Saluto range with combined braking setup (CBS). The Japanese brand calls this feature ‘Unified Braking System’, or ‘UBS’, but the basic working principle is the same. When the rear brake is fully applied, the system simultaneously applies the front brake partially. This feature is available in both the front disc and drum variants of the Saluto 125. The bike is available in four colours: Armada Blue, Sparky Cyan, Brave Black and Matt Green. The first three colours come in both disc and drum variants at Rs 60,500 and Rs 58,800, respectively. Compared to the version without UBS, the disc variant is around Rs 3,600 more expensive, while the drum model is around Rs 4,400 dearer. The Matt Green colour option commands a premium of Rs 1,000 over the standard colours.

The Saluto RX, on the other hand, comes in Matt Green, Ritzy Red, Snappy Cyan - all priced at Rs 52,000. It’s around Rs 2,700 more than the now-discontinued version without UBS. There’s also a special colour variant available for a premium of Rs 1000 called the ‘Darknight’. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi. This bike is available only with front and rear drum units. Other than the new feature and colours, the mechanicals of the two bikes remain the same. The Saluto 125 produces 8.3PS and 10.1Nm from its 125cc single-cylinder engine, while the Saluto RX employs a 110cc single-cylinder motor which makes 7.5PS and 8.5Nm.

Chief rivals for the Saluto 125 are Honda CB Shine, Bajaj Discover 125 and Hero Glamour; while the Saluto RX competes with TVS Star City Plus, Honda Dream Yuga and Bajaj Discover 110. Here’s Yamaha’s press release regarding the launch:

Mumbai, 13th December 2018: India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd. (IYM) has launched the all new ‘Saluto’ (125 cc) and ‘Saluto RX’ (110 cc) equipped with Unified Braking System (UBS) today for all variants of both the products in order to impart further riding excitement. The new ‘Saluto’ (125 cc) equipped with UBS will be available in 4 attractive graphics and colours for both drum and disc variants whereas the new ‘Saluto RX’ (110 cc) with UBS will also feature 4 striking graphics and colours.

The new Unified Braking System (UBS) is a new age braking concept from Yamaha that supports partial application of the front brake simultaneously when the rear brake is applied completely. The UBS enabled motorcycles from Yamaha will now have improved braking controls due to intensification of braking force with the help of the new technology. 

The new Saluto with UBS (125 cc) will have an air cooled, 4 stroke, SOHC, 2-Valve engine based on the Blue Core Engine Development ideal and lightest in its class at 114 kg. The disk brake models with UBS have been developed for better controls and reliability. The new Saluto RX with UBS (110 cc) mounts an air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 110cc, 2-valve single-cylinder engine based on the Blue Core Engine Development concept and lightest weight in its class at 99 kg.
