Who Is Chinmay Deore, Indian Student Facing Deportation After Visa Revocation In US

Three international students, including Chinmay Deore, have filed a lawsuit against the DHS after their immigration status was terminated without explanation.

In the United States, three students, including Indian Chinmay Deore, filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and immigration officials after their student immigration status was terminated. Xiangyun Bu and Qiuyi Yang from China and Yogesh Joshi from Nepal also claimed in their complaint that their immigration status in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) was illegally terminated "without sufficient notice and explanation".

Who Is Chinmay Deore?

Chinmay Deora, according to the complaint filed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), went to the United States on an H-4 dependent visa in 2004. He, along with his family, left the US in 2008, and he later returned with his family in 2014 on an H-4 dependent visa.

Deora, aged 21, has been studying at Wayne State University since 2021. He is a citizen of India and anticipates completing his course in May 2025.

According to the ACLU complaint, Deore lawfully applied and was granted permission to transition to F-1 student status when he was aging out of his H-4 status. He, according to the complaint, has never been charged with or convicted of a crime in the United States. Also, other than a speeding ticket and a parking ticket, he has not been charged with any civil infraction, motor vehicle code violation, or immigration law violation.

What Happened?

Deore, on April 4, received an email from Wayne State University stating:

“Our record shows that your SEVIS has been terminated this morning- TERMINATION REASON: OTHERWISE FAILING TO MAINTAIN STATUS – Individual identified in criminal records check and/or has had their VISA revoked. SEVIS record has been terminated,” reports India Express.

According to the report, no further details or communication followed.
