WATCH: Water Pours In Metro Elevator at Pentagon Station As Washington Records Heaviest Rainfall

As per a report in the Washington Post, in just about an hour, about a month’s worth of rain drowned the District, a staggering 3.3 inches falling at Reagan National Airport.

New Delhi: Washington faced its heaviest on record rainfall in history on Monday. The city was battered with rainstorm throwing life out of gear in the United States’ capital. The latest rainfall was exceptional in not only in its intensity but also for the amount of water it dispensed in a short time. As per a report in the Washington Post, in just about an hour, about a month’s worth of rain drowned the District, a staggering 3.3 inches falling at Reagan National Airport. This hourly output was Washington’s highest since at least 1936 (National Airport is the city’s official weather observing site), the report said. The deluge led to severe flooding problems in the city including the inundation in the White House. At Pentagon station, water gushed into the elevator and commuters witnessed quite a sight of water cascading down onto a yellow “wet floor” sign, when they tried to use the elevator. The rainstorm led to the flooding of the basement of the White House. The rainstorm washed out roads , stranded drivers and soaked the basements of the city, throwing the morning commute out of gear. As water gushed into the press workspace in the basement near the White House’s West Wing, government employees worked to drain puddles of stagnant water with wet vacs, reports said.
