US: Kamala Harris' Husband Will Be The First Second-Gentleman; Here’s A Look At The Many Firsts That Kamala Brings

Kamala Harris scripted history by becoming the first woman to become the Vice President of the United States of America. Now, her husband will become the first 'Second-Gentleman'.

New Delhi: The new Vice President of the United States of America has Kamala Harris' historic win has grabbed all the eyeballs and many see it as an inspiration. She is not only the first-ever woman to be elected Vice President of the United States Of America, but her husband Doug Emhoff will be the first "second gentleman"  of the country.   • First "second gentleman"- With Kamala Harris as the new Vice President-elect her husband becomes the "second gentleman"  of the country. According to media reports, Doug Emhoff who was often seen campaigning with his wife is an accomplished lawyer. He took leave in August from the multinational company DLA Piper due to conflict of interest as the company has lobbying offices in Washington. He has two children from a previous marriage and they call Harris “Momala.”
  • First woman Vice President- Harris will the 49th Vice president of America and is the only woman so far to be in the position. She said during an outdoor rally, ''While I may be the first woman in this office, I won't be the last. Because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities."
  • First woman of colour to be the VP- Harris is the first black woman to be the Vice President. Harris is Jamaican-Indian while her mother is Indian from Chennai, her father is from Jamaica. As a child, she used to visit both the Black Baptist church and a Hindu temple as a part of her upbringing as both being Indian and Black.
  • First Asian American to be the VP- Harris is still connected to her Indian roots. As a young girl, she visited India often. She is said to be especially inspired by her grandfather who was a government official and had taken part in the Indian independence struggle, and her grandmother who was an activist teaching impoverished women in remote areas about birth control.
  •  First woman of colour to be California's attorney general- Harris was the first woman and the first black person to serve as California's attorney general in 2010.
