New Delhi: At least three people were killed and more than a dozen others injured after the Taliban militants opened fire during protests against the group in Afghanistan’s Jalalabad city.

The deaths took place when local residents tried to install Afghanistan's national flag at a square in the city, some 150 km to the east of Kabul, Reuters reported two witnesses and a former police official as saying.

There has, however, been no comment so far with regard to this incident from the Taliban spokesmen. This took place as the locals staged a protest in support of the country’s national flag.

“Protest in Jalalabad city in support of National flag. #Afghanistan,” Pajhwok Afghan News tweeted.

The initial reports suggested the locals removed a Taliban flag that was hoisted in place of the flag of the previous Afghan government at one of the roundabouts in the city

One of the videos of the incident in Jalalabad shows multiple shots being fired in a crowded street on the protestors during which some video journalists were also beaten.

“#Taliban firing on protesters in Jalalabad city and beaten some video journalists. #Afghanidtan,” Pajhwok Afghan News tweeted sharing the video of the incident.
