State Of Emergency Declared As Storm Hilary Rips Through California After Battering Mexico

A state of emergency has been declared in California after storm Hilary triggered flash floods and tornado warnings. US President Biden has assured all assistance to the people

Forecasters warned of severe flooding and tornaods as cyclone Hilary rips through California after it pummeled Mexico. Several streets and roads were inundated while some were swept away as the storm ravished Mexico killing one person.

"In the wake of the storm, the White House has released in which he has assured all assistance to the people. The White House statement read, "This afternoon I spoke to California Governor Gavin Newsom about the emergency preparedness measures in place, and the initial response to Tropical Storm Hilary … My Administration stands ready to provide additional assistance as requested. I urge people to take this storm seriously, and listen to state and local officials.”   

Meanwhile, Governor of California has declared a state of emergency with 7500 emergency respondents on duty. The storm lashed Mexico's Baja California peninsula with winds of 70 mph (119km/h), as reported by BBC.

A number of houses are now submerged in the town of Santa Rosalia. Hilary is likely to become weak as it moves north. it is California's first tropical storm in 84 years. The last time a tropical storm made landfall in southern California was in 939. According to the experts, recent abnormal weather events that have affected the United States - and several areas around the world have been influenced by human-caused climate change, BBC reported.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria told CNN, "We are not used to this level of precipitation, generally. Certainly not in the middle of summer," adding he was worried about potential power outages from the wind as well as flooding.

"We’re not built for this kind of rainfall," he was quoted as saying by CNN.

Meanwhile, authorities across southern California pleaded with residents not to drive and warned of mudslides, road deterioration and dangerous debris flows and flooding.  According to CNN, the National Weather Service said parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties were already experiencing “dangerous flooding” Sunday evening, writing on social media, "THIS IS LIFE THREATENING FLOODING!"
