Fox News Cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski Killed in Ukraine, Reporter Injured

Pierre Zakrzewski, a Fox News news cameraman, died on the outskirts of Ukraine's capital Kyiv while working with journalist Benjamin Hall when an incoming fire hit their car.

New Delhi: A Fox News cameraman was killed and a reporter was injured in Ukraine as Russia's invasion of the east European country entered its third week, AFP reported.

According to the network, Pierre Zakrzewski died on the outskirts of Ukraine's capital Kyiv while working with journalist Benjamin Hall. Their vehicle was struck by incoming fire in Horenka, Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott said in a statement.

"Pierre was killed in Horenka, outside of Kyiv, Ukraine. Pierre was with Benjamin Hall yesterday newsgathering when their vehicle was struck by incoming fire. Pierre was a war zone photographer who covered nearly every international story for Fox News from Iraq to Afghanistan to Syria during his long tenure with us," Fox News chief executive, Suzanne Scott said.

“His passion and talent as a journalist were unmatched. Based in London, Pierre had been working in Ukraine since February," she further said.

The development comes days after award-winning American journalist Brent Renaud was killed by Russian forces in the Ukrainian city of Irpin, The Guardian reported. Juan Arredondo, an American photographer, was injured.

Renaud is the first foreign journalist known to be killed in the war in Ukraine. A Ukrainian camera operator, Yevhenii Sakun, was reportedly killed when Kyiv's TV tower was shelled earlier this month.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

After President Vladimir Putin sanctioned a "special military operation" to "demilitarise and denazify" Ukraine on February 24, Russia invaded its neighbouring country.

The UN has registered at least 596 civilian fatalities since the invasion, while it believes the exact toll is significantly higher.
