"PM Modi Will Take Care Of It": Says Donald Trump On Question About Radical Islamic Terrorism
Trump was asked “how do you see the statement coming from Pakistani PM Imran Khan admitting that the Pakistani ISI trained Al Qaeda?”. He said, “I am sure your Prime Minister will take care of it.”
New Delhi: US President Donald Trump said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take care of the radical Islamic terrorism rooting out of Pakistan, while responding to ABP News’ question during the media interaction after their bilateral meet on the sidelines of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Trump was asked “how do you see the statement coming from Pakistani PM Imran Khan admitting that the Pakistani ISI trained Al Qaeda?”. He said, “I am sure your Prime Minister will take care of it.”
Speaking at an event at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) think tank in New York on Monday, Imran Khan had acknowledged that his country's army and spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) trained Al Qaeda and other militant groups.
"The Pakistani army ISI trained Al Qaeda and all these groups to fight in Afghanistan, there were always links, there had to be linked because they trained them," Khan had said.
"The message is not for me to give but for PM Modi and I think he gave it loud and clear on that day. He gave a big loud message and I am sure he will be able to handle the situation," Trump said when asked if he would like to give a message to Pakistan amidst reports of several terrorists ready to infiltrate into India and the comments made by Pakistan PM.
Trump went on to say that it would be great if both India and Pakistan can work out something on Kashmir. "We all want to see that. I'm sure we all want to see it."
Asked about his talks with Imran Khan on Monday, Trump said that it was a "very good meeting".
"It was a long meeting and we discussed a lot. And I think he'd like to see something happen that would be very fruitful, very peaceful. And I think that will happen, ultimately.
"I really believe that these two great gentlemen (Modi and Imran Khan) will get together and work out something.
"You know, you mentioned Pakistan, but Iran would have to be at the top of the list. Because if you look at terrorist states, that's been the number one for a long time.
"But I really believe that Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Khan, they get along -- they will get along when they get to know each other. And I think a lot of good things will come from that meeting," Trump said.
On ties with India and Modi, Trump said: "The relationship has never been better, I say, than it is right now, between the Prime Minister, myself, India, and the United States."
