PM Modi US Visit Live Updates: After concluding a two-day visit to France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the United States capital, Washington DC and held talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House. Trump welcomed Modi at his Oval Office with a warm hug before settling down for the crucial talks, hours after the American President announced a new reciprocal tariff policy for all the trading partners of the US.
Before meeting Trump, the Indian prime minister held separate talks with US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, billionaire Elon Musk and Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy.
PM Modi landed at Joint Base Andrews in Washington DC on his first trip to the US since President Donald Trump assumed office for his second term.
Ahead of his visit, the Prime Minister expressed enthusiasm about meeting his "friend" Donald Trump, recalling their collaboration during Trump's first term to strengthen a global partnership. He described the trip as an opportunity to build on past achievements and advance a shared agenda to further enhance and deepen bilateral ties.
From the Airport, PM Modi arrived at Blair House, the US Presidential guesthouse right across the road from the White House, where he will be staying. Supporters of PM Modi and the Indian diaspora welcomed him outside Blair House.
After landing in Washington DC, PM Modi shared a post on his social media platform X and said, "Looking forward to meeting Donald Trump and building upon the India-USA Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Our nations will keep working closely for the benefit of our people and for a better future for our planet."
Appreciating the Indian diaspora's dedication to giving him a warm welcome, he also said, "A warm reception in the winter chill! Despite the cold weather, the Indian diaspora in Washington DC has welcomed me with a very special welcome. My gratitude to them."
The agenda will focus on trade, investment, defense, energy, immigration, and broader strategic alignment between the two nations, particularly concerning the Indo-Pacific—often seen as a response to China's regional assertiveness—along with the Quad alliance and developments in West Asia, including the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.
