US Asks India, Pakistan To 'Pursue A Responsible Resolution' Amid Escalating Tensions

The US State Department said it has been in contact with both governments at multiple levels following the April 22 attack on tourists that claimed 26 lives.

Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, the United States on Sunday asked both countries to pursue a responsible resolution.

The US State Department said it has been in contact with both governments at multiple levels following the April 22 attack on tourists that claimed 26 lives.

"This is an evolving situation, and we are monitoring developments closely," a State Department spokesperson told Reuters. "The United States encourages all parties to work together towards a responsible resolution," the statement added.

The spokesperson condemned the attack, saying the US "stands with India," echoing similar remarks from President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

China Calls On India, Pakistan To Exercise Restraint

Meanwhile, while supporting its close ally Pakistan, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi called on New Delhi and Islamabad to exercise restraint.

Wang, over a phone call with his Pakistan counterpart, said China is closely following developments after the terror attack and backs an "impartial investigation" into the incident, according to a satement from China’s foreign ministry.

"China has always supported Pakistan in its resolute anti-terrorism actions. As a staunch friend and all-weather strategic partner, China fully understands Pakistan's reasonable security concerns and supports Pakistan in safeguarding its sovereignty and security interests," the statement quoted Wang as saying.
