Nobel Prize Winners 2020: Here's The Full List Of Winners Announced So Far & Past Year Laureates

The Nobel Prizes are presented to recipients in Stockholm and Oslo in December. However, in view of the pandemic, some of the events in Stockholm will be cancelled instead digital ceremony will be conducted for the winners.

Nobel Prize 2020: The announcement of Nobel Prize winners remains one of the most awaited moments for people associated in fields ranging from literature to science, here is a look at this year’s winners so far. So far, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the first half of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics to Roger Penrose and the other half jointly to Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez. In the field of Physiology or Medicine, the Nobel Prize 2020 has been awarded to Dr. Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice for their discovery of the hepatitis C virus.  The Nobel committee said the three scientists had “made possible blood tests and new medicines that have saved millions of lives.” The announcements started on Monday this year  and will continue until next Monday, when the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel is announced.

The Nobel Prizes are usually presented to recipients in Stockholm and Oslo in December. However, in view of the pandemic, some of the events in Stockholm stands cancelled , instead digital ceremony will be conducted for the Nobelists, and medals and diplomas are to be distributed to the recipients’ embassies and handed over in their home countries. Awardees may get invited to the award ceremony for 2021, if possible.

Although the Oslo ceremony for the peace prize will remain smaller compared to previous years . Apart from this, each prize will rise to 10 million Swedish krona, 1 million more than in the previous year. The rise in price sum has been possible due to "more stable" finances based on the successful management of assets and cost savings, as per the foundation. • The next Nobel Prize will be announced in Physics on Tuesday in Sweden.

Nobel Prize 2019 Winners Scientists James Peebles, Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz won the Nobel Prize for Physics for ground-breaking work in astronomy. Peebles was awarded half the prize while Mayor and Queloz shared the other half.

• After that, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry will be announced on Wednesday.

This rechargeable battery laid the foundation of wireless electronics such as mobile phones and laptops. It also makes a fossil fuel-free world possible, as it is used for everything from powering electric cars to storing energy from renewable sources.

• The Nobel Prize in Literature will be announced on Thursday in Sweden. It’s interesting to note that prizes for 2018 and 2019 were announced last year after the award was postponed after the husband of an academy member was accused, and ultimately convicted, of rape. The crisis also called for the departure of several board members and even the intervention of the king of Sweden.

• The Nobel Peace Prize 2020 for literature will be announced on Friday.

• The Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science will be announced next Monday.
