Knife Attack At Gare du Nord Railway Station In Paris Injures Six People: Report

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said the man attacked travellers with a home-made weapon at the entrance and inside the station. Police had earlier said the man had used a knife or blade.

New Delhi: A person attacked and wounded six people at the Gare du Nord train station before being shot by off-duty police officers in Paris on Wednesday, news agency Reuters reported.

According to the report, one person sustained serious injuries in the incident.  

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said the man attacked travellers with a home-made weapon at the entrance and inside the station. Police had earlier said the man had used a knife or blade.

According to the Reuters report, soon after the attack, off-duty police officers who were returning home after a night shift, shot the attacker three times, Darmanin said.

Asked if there is any terrorist motives, Darmanin said a criminal investigation is underway. However, so far no investigation for terrorism had been opened.

As per Darmanin, the attacker, who has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, has said nothing during the attack. He also did not have any identity papers with him.

One of the six injured is a police officer, Darmanin added.

Police secured the area following the attack. As per the report, trains are operating normally after the attack.

It is to be noted that the Gare du Nord, one of the busiest stations in Europe, is the arrival point of the Eurostar train from London and a major gateway to the north of Europe.

Earlier in February 2022, a policeman killed a person who attacked them with a knife at the Gare du Nord station.

In October 2017, a man who stabbed two people at the Marseille train station was shot and killed by soldiers.
