Pakistan: Massive Explosion In Building Near Karachi University; At Least 3 Dead, 15 Injured

At least three people have been killed and 15 others have been injured in explosion at a four-storey building.

Pakistan blast: At least three people have been killed and 15 others have been injured in explosion at a four-storey building opposite the Karachi University Maskan gate in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Pakistan media has reported. Rescue and relief operations are going on at the site of the blast. Footage and visuals on Twitter showed how the infrastructure of the building has been damaged. The blast is suspected to have taken place on the second floor of a building, windows of nearby buildings as well as some vehicles were also damaged, the Dawn has reported citing eye-witnesses.  Though the nature of the blast has not been ascertained yet, police has said that it seems to be a cylinder blast. The bomb disposal squad will be verifying the cause of the explosion. A day earlier, five people were wounded when a bomb exploded at the entrance of a bus terminal near Sheerin Jinnah Colony. Several Twitter users shared the videos which showed the damage to the building and the injured being taken to hospital.

The blast in Karachi comes at a time when the city has become a hotbed of resistance against the Imran Khan government by a united front of opposition parties. Almost all police officers in Sindh Police had applied for leave in protest against the humiliation meted out to the Sindh IGP Mushtaq Mehr, during the PML-N leader Safdar Awan's arrest. In a midnight drama which unfolded in Pakistan almost the entire top brass of Sindh police, including three Additional IGs, 25 DIGs, 30 SSPs and dozens of SPs, DSPs and SHOs across Sindh, tendered leave applications, as a protest against the "resentment and heartache caused to all ranks of the force" by the unfortunate incident of October 18/19. The incident sent shockwaves in top Army brass with Army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa himself stepped in and order an inquiry into the 'Karachi incident'. (This is a breaking news story.
