Islamabad's Foreign Policy Dependent On China, Admits Imran Khan

While making a joint statement on Sunday, Imran Khan revealed that Islamabad’s foreign policy is completely dependent upon Beijing.

New Delhi: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan during his visit to Beijing was all praise for Pakistan-China relationship and admitted that the countries foreign policy depends completely on China.

While making a joint statement on Sunday, Imran Khan revealed that Islamabad’s foreign policy is completely dependent upon Beijing. He elaborated saying that the Pakistan-China relationship formed "the cornerstone of its foreign policy". The Express Tribune reported that the two countries emphasised their support on issues "concerning each other's core interests".

After the meeting of Khan and Chinese President Xi Jinping, in Beijing, the statement released to reporters read, “The leaders of the two countries held an in-depth exchange of views on the entire spectrum of bilateral relations as well as the regional situation and international political landscape.”

Khan also praised Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has significantly contributed to his country’s economic and social development.

Supporting each others’ endeavours, the two parties asserted that their close strategic ties and deep-rooted friendship are time-tested and timeless, the Business Standard reported. Their bilateral relationship is in the best interest of the two countries. The Pakistan side also added that the relationship that the two countries share is the 'cornerstone of its foreign policy' and the close friendship with China enjoys mass support from Pakistanis.

The joint statement also stated, "The Pakistan side expressed its "commitment to One-China Policy and support for China on Taiwan, South China Sea, Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet.” 

“The Chinese side reaffirmed its support for Pakistan in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence and security, as well as promoting its socio-economic development and prosperity,” the statement further added.
