New Delhi: Every year on June 30 the world celebrates a day of awareness and education about the space rubble that occasionally causes doomsday panic on earth-asteroids! These rocky minor planets or planetoids are remnants from the formation of our solar system and are mostly located between Mars and Jupiter within the main asteroid belt. The size range can vary from 530 km in diameter to 10 meters. The day was founded to raise awareness about these celestial bodies that have also been responsible for starting life on earth. According to NASA, there are about 958,963 asteroids in our solar system. Asteroids range in size from Vesta—the largest at about 329 miles (530 kilometers) in diameter - to bodies that are less than 33 feet (10 meters) across.
