Indian Woman Goes Missing In US Days After Arriving For Arranged Marriage

Last seen on June 20th, she was reported missing five days later. Police are investigating if the marriage was a pretext for travel.

A 24-year-old Indian woman who travelled to the United States reportedly for an arranged marriage has gone missing, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

Simran was last seen on 20 June in Lindenwold, New Jersey, shortly after arriving from India. Surveillance footage reviewed by local police showed her checking her phone and appearing to wait for someone, although officers noted that she did not seem to be in distress.

The woman was officially reported missing on Wednesday, five days after her arrival, police said. Investigators revealed that she had come to the US for an arranged marriage, though they are also probing whether the marriage proposal might have been a pretext to secure free travel to America, according to reports from The New York Post.

Police stated that Simran has no known relatives in the United States and does not speak English. Her only phone is an international device that operates solely through Wi-Fi, making communication challenging. So far, authorities have been unable to reach any family members in India to gather further information about her possible whereabouts.

“At this time there are no known family members in India to contact to obtain information on her possible whereabouts,” Lindenwold police said in a statement quoted by Patch News.

Simran is described as five feet, four inches tall, weighing around 150 pounds (68 kilograms), with a small scar on the left side of her forehead. She was last seen wearing grey sweatpants, a white T-shirt, black flip-flops, and small diamond-studded earrings.

Anyone with information about her location has been urged to contact Lindenwold Police Detective Joe Tomasetti.
