Imran Khan Lauds India For Not Buckling Under 'US Pressure' After Modi Govt Slashes Fuel Prices

Former Pak PM Imran Khan praises India for not yielding to US pressure and buying discounted Russian oil to relieve the masses.

New Delhi: Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan lauded India for not buckling under the "US pressure" and buying discounted oil from Russia. He said that his government was also working on the same thing with the help of an independent foreign policy. He then criticised the Pakistan Muslim League (N)-led government for "running around like a headless chicken with the economy in a tailspin". Khan’s comments come after the Indian Union Government announced the reduction of the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre respectively, reported ANI.

Imran Khan tweeted, "Despite being part of the Quad, India sustained pressure from the US and bought discounted Russian oil to provide relief to the masses. This is what our govt was working to achieve with the help of an independent foreign policy”.

He then said "Mir Jafars and Mir Sadiqs" bowed to the external pressure forcing a regime change, and "are now running around like a headless chicken with the economy in a tailspin."

"For our govt, Pakistan's interest was supreme but unfortunately the local Mir Jafars & Mir Sadiqs bowed to external pressure forcing a regime change, and are now running around like a headless chicken with the economy in a tailspin," the former PM tweeted.

Since FM Sitharaman's announcement, two states Kerala and Rajasthan have announced to reduce tax on petrol and diesel. Kerala has cut the state tax on the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.41 and Rs 1.36, respectively. Whereas, the Rajasthan government has reduced the Value-added tax (VAT) on petrol by Rs 2.48 per litre and diesel by Rs 1.16 per litre.
