World Continues To Reel Under Relentless COVID-19 Attack As Overall Cases Top 5.4 Million: WHO

According to the WHO, the global case tally currently is reported at 5,404,512, a stupendous rise by 99,780 over the past day. The death count worldwide stands at 343,51, a major surge by 1,486.

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide witnessed yet another a massive surge over the past 24 hours with nearly 100,000 fresh cases reported, taking the overall tally to 5.4 million, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said.

According to the WHO, the global case tally currently is reported at 5,404,512, a stupendous rise by 99,780 over the past day. The death count worldwide stands at  343,514 -- an increase by 1,486. United States continued to be the worst hit nation by the pandemic with most cases of infection recorded. As per the latest tally, US had 2,454,452 COVID-19 cases with 143,739 deaths.

 The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across the African continent surpassed 115,616 as the death toll from the ongoing pandemic surged to 3,479, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has said.

The Africa CDC, in its latest continental situation update report issued on Tuesday, said that some 46,630 people who have been infected with the COVID-19 have recovered across the continent as of Tuesday afternoon, Xinhua reported. Figures from the Africa CDC also showed that amid the rapid spread of the virus across the continent, the highly COVID-19 affected African countries include South Africa with 23,615 confirmed cases, Egypt with 17,967 confirmed cases, Algeria with 8,503 confirmed cases, Nigeria with 8,063 confirmed cases, and Morocco with 7,556 confirmed cases.
