Nepal Earthquake: Buildings Suffer Damage In 6.2 Magnitude Quake — WATCH

As an impact of earthquake, few buildings in Bajhang district suffered damage.

An earthquake of 6.2 magnitude strikes Nepal on Tuesday, news agency ANI reported. This was the second earthquake to hit the himalayan nation. The first quake of magnitude 4.6 hit Nepal at a depth of 10 kilometre at 2:25 pm. Minutes later, a stronger quake of magnitude 6.2 jolted the Himalayan nation at 2:51 pm. As an impact of earthquake, few buildings in Bajhang district suffered damage.

"Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.2, occurred on 03-10-2023, 14:51:04 IST, Lat: 29.39 and Long: 81.23, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Nepal," National Centre for Seismology posted on X, formerly Twitter.

After the earthquake hits nepal, strong tremors jolted the Delhi-NCR region and parts of North India on Tuesday.

The earthquakes lasted about 40 seconds and were felt in regions of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow, Hapur, and Amroha.

Sanjay Kumar Prajapati, Scientist at the National Centre for Seismology, explained the recent earthquake in Nepal, the vibrations of which were felt in several places of north India.  He stated: "The earthquake hit western Nepal, which is a zone near our Uttarakhand region...This was a 6.2 magnitude earthquake which was at a shallow depth of 5 km. We have recorded two aftershocks...In the Delhi region, the magnitude was 3...We have received responses from people that it was felt in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Delhi, Lucknow region, Jaipur region. A few people in Ahmedabad region are also telling us that they felt it there."

After a severe 5.8 magnitude earthquake rocked Afghanistan on August 5, tremors were detected in Delhi and neighbouring areas. The earthquake hit at a depth of 181 km in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush area, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

The national capital is in sesimic zone IV, which indicates it is an earthquake-prone area. Apart from Delhi, the whole Indo-Gangetic Plain, which spans 700,000 square kilometres of northern and eastern India, is prone to earthquakes.
