India’s CAB Violates International Human Rights Law, Bilateral Agreements With Pak: Imran Khan

Taking on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Khan said that the move is part of “Hindu Rashtra” plan of the organisation.

New Delhi: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, on Tuesday, criticised the Citizenship Amendment Bill passed by the lower house of the Indian Parliament which seeks to help non-Muslims facing persecution in his country and two others, and said he strongly condemns the proposed Indian legislation. Taking on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), he said that the move is part of “Hindu Rashtra” plan of the organisation. “We strongly condemn Indian Lok Sabha citizenship legislation which violates all norms of international human rights law and bilateral agreements with Pakistan,” he said in a tweet. “It is part of the RSS Hindu Rashtra design of expansionism propagated by the fascist Modi Govt,” he added. In a later tweet, he again raked up the Kashmir issue, and said we appeal “we should appeal to the conscience of the world, the rulers of the international law and the Security Council to take action against the illegal occupation of the occupied Kashmir by the Indian Government.” The Lok Sabha passed the Citizenship Amendment Bill on Monday night. The lower house passed the Bill with 311 votes in favour and 80 against it a little past midnight after a debate that lasted more than seven hours. It seeks to provide Indian citizenship to non-Muslim refugees coming from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Meanwhile, in India, the national capital witnessed protest demonstrations by political parties, students' bodies and civil society groups over the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.  The Northeast Students' Union is staging a protest against the bill at Jantar Mantar. People from various walks of life and across organisations have joined the stir.
