'China A Contributor To World Peace, Prosperity': Beijing Responds To US's 'Bullying And Coercion' Remark

China has reacted to the United States' remark that the world witnesses 'bullying and coercion' from Beijing. It said that China is a contributor to world peace and prosperity.

China on Tuesday responded to the United States' remark that the world witnesses 'bullying and coercion' from Beijing. The spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in India reacted sharply to the statement and said that China is a contributor to world peace and prosperity, adding that victims of US coercion and bullying include its allies and partners and developing nations are bearing the 'brunt' of it. The spokesperson reportedly said that it is the US that resorts to all types of measures for 'coercion' and 'hegemony'.

"China is a contributor to world peace and prosperity. It is the US, not China, who resorts to all types of measures for coercion and hegemony. Victims of US coercion and bullying include its allies and partners, with developing countries bearing the brunt of it", the spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in India, Wang Xiaojian, tweeted.

On the India-China border issue, Wang said, "The current China-India border situation is overall stable. The boundary question is a matter between China and India, and brooks no interference of any third party."

Earlier, US Defence Secretary said, "We face a rapidly changing world. We see bullying and coercion from China, Russian aggression against Ukraine & transnational challenges such as terrorism and climate change.

He was speaking on the importance of joint military exercises between India and the US.

The face-off comes just days after Chinese Defence Minister Li Shangfu in a veiled attack on the US said that some country "takes a selective approach to rules and international laws."

Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia's top security summit, Li said “It likes forcing its own rules on others,” adding, “Its so-called ‘rules-based international order’ never tells you what the rules are and who made these rules.”

“It practises exceptionalism and double standards and only serves the interests and follows the rules of a small number of countries,” he said in a speech that marked his first significant international address since he was named China's Minister of National Defence in March.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin rebuked China in a speech at the security meeting in Singapore on Saturday for refusing to hold military talks, leaving the superpowers deadlocked over their differences. He vowed that Washington would not stand for any “coercion and bullying” of its allies and partners by China while assuring Beijing that the United States remains committed to maintaining the status quo in Taiwan.

“To be clear, we do not seek conflict or confrontation,” he said. “But we will not flinch in the face of bullying or coercion.”
