British Airways Flight Stuck In Air For 23 Hours After Double Diversion

A British Airways flight took about 23 hours to reach London after 2 diversions due to a medical emergency and crew change.

A British Airways plane was stuck in the air for over 23 hours after it had to be diverted twice. The Boeing 777 plane BA252 left George Town, Grand Cayman, on time at 6:21 pm EST (3:51 am IST) on April 8.

It made a brief scheduled stop in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, to board additional passengers before continuing its journey.

Citing Flightradar24, CNN reported that the Boeing flight had to make an unplanned stop for five hours later in Gander, in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, after a passenger fell sick.

But the trouble didn’t seem to end there, since, due to the delays, crew members were hit their maximum flying time. So, the plane had to make another stop, this time in Reykjavik, Iceland, where the crew got off and was replaced by a fresh group, as per the report.

After another two and a half hours in the air, BA252 landed at London’s Heathrow Airport at 10:38 pm local time on April 9. The entire journey lasted nearly 23 hours — more than double its typical duration of around 11 hours.

Passenger Tries To Open Cabin Door

In another crisis, a flight from Bali, Indonesia, to Melbourne, Australia, was forced to turn back mid-air after a passenger attempted to open a cabin door while the aircraft was flying over the Indian Ocean.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, passengers on an American Airlines jet in Georgia had to be evacuated after smoke and a burning odour were detected in the cabin.

According to CNN, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that a “stress management team” would be deployed to meet with air traffic controllers at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Wednesday.

This move follows a series of troubling incidents, including a deadly mid-air collision and a reported altercation inside the airport’s control tower.
