New Delhi: 21 years after the deadliest terrorist assault to ever occur on American soil, Americans are remembering 9/11 with silent moments, reciting the names of the victims, volunteering, and carrying out other tributes on Sunday.

President Joe Biden is slated to speak and lay a wreath at the Pentagon. On the other hand, Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband are expected at the World Trade Center in New York, as reported by news agency AP.

An exhibit has been created in honour of the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The 9/11 Memorial and Museum at Ground Zero in New York City has a Portrait Wall where all 2,997 victims of the attacks have been put up.

It currently includes images of each person who perished in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, in the Pentagon, on Flight 93, and at the World Trade Centers.

Today, the New York City Police Department has set aside a portion of its Twitter feed to honour "our 9/11 lost brothers and sisters." The NYPD also published photos of the policemen it lost in the incident.

On Sunday at 2:00 p.m., a vigil will begin at the United Nations Public Plaza. According to a press release, it would involve religious organisations and community groups of many faiths with the intention to "promote peace and togetherness between persons of different faith groups." Performances and art will also be included at the event.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri paid his tribute to victims of the Twin Tower attacks as he tweeted: “On the anniversary of 9/11, I pay tribute to the victims of the dastardly terror attacks which changed the world forever.”

Nearly 3,000 people died on September 11, 2001, when 19 al-Qaeda hijackers took control of four jetliners and crashed two of them into the World Trade Center in New York, one into the Pentagon, and the fourth into a field in western Pennsylvania.
