10 Injured In IED Blast In Pakistan's Balochistan

Five shops and a vehicle belonging to the paramilitary force were damaged in the explosion on Jaan Muhammad Road.

A bomb blast rocked Pakistan's Balochistan province on Friday, injuring 10 people, including a security officer. The blast, appeared to have been triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED) through remote control, comes just days after at least 10 people were killed and several others were injured in a bomb attack on a vehicle carrying labourers in Balochistan.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anwar Ali of Gwalamandi told news agency PTI that the explosion occurred near the convoy of the paramilitary Frontier Corps in Quetta.

"Preliminary investigations indicate that the IED contained around two to three kilograms of explosives," Ali said.

Five shops and a vehicle belonging to the paramilitary force were damaged in the explosion on Jaan Muhammad Road.

8 Killed In Blast In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

In another separate incident, a suicide bombing at the Darul Uloom Haqqania madrasain in Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province killed six people, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Sami Group) leader Maulana Hameed-ul-Haq Haqqani. Several people, including three police officers, were injured in the blast. Later, the death toll rose to eight.

The blast took place in the madrassa located in Akora Khattak town of Nowshera district, leaving 17 others just ahead of the fasting month of Ramzan.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said that Hamid ul Haq Haqqani was the sole target of the attack, PTI reported.

The blast took place after the cleric received threats at a conference of the Islamic Scholars Association, where he said prevention of girls' education was against Islamic teachings.

The masterminds of the attack were identified and an action was being taken against them, PTI reported citing security sources. "However, they have no connection with any religious institution," they said.

Born in 1968, Hamidul ul Haq was appointed chief of his JUI (Sami Group) after the death of his father Maulana Sami ul Haq. The Darul Uloom Haqqania madrassa where the blast occurred propagates the Hanafi Deobandi school of Sunni Islam.
