Beawar-Bharatpur Expressway approved: 342 km route to cut travel time, boost connectivity, and enhance trade between Beawar and Bharatpur. Construction to start shortly.
A new greenfield expressway from Beawar to Bharatpur in Rajasthan has been approved, promising to reduce travel time and enhance connectivity between the two cities. The project, known as the Beawar-Bharatpur Greenfield Expressway, was announced in the 2024 state budget and has now received approval for its Detailed Project Report (DPR). The survey work for the expressway has officially started, with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) given 18 months to complete it.
The expressway will cover a total distance of 342 km and is designed to improve traffic flow while cutting down travel time. For the construction of this project, the government plans to acquire 3,175 hectares of land. After the completion of the survey, the budget allocation for the project will be finalized, and the construction work will begin. Rajasthan government in this year's budget announced multiple road projects including state highways, bypass roads, flyovers, elevated roads, ROB, RUB, bridge construction, repair and upgradation of roads.
Route and Connectivity
The Beawar-Bharatpur Expressway will start from NH-58 in Beawar and extend to NH-21 in Bharatpur. The planned route will pass through key towns, including Gulabpura, Kekri, Todaraisingh, Uniara, Tonk, and Niwai. According to the government’s plan, the expressway will cover areas where road connectivity is currently lacking, thereby improving regional access.
Currently, the distance between Beawar and Bharatpur is around 370 km, which takes about 7 to 8 hours to cover. After the construction of the expressway, the travel time is expected to reduce significantly due to the expressway's direct and smooth alignment. The expressway will be built away from densely populated areas and will have fewer turns, allowing vehicles to maintain higher speeds and improving overall travel efficiency.
Part of a Bigger Plan
The Beawar-Bharatpur Expressway is part of a larger infrastructure plan under Rajasthan’s ‘Vision 2047’. In the last state budget, the government announced the construction of a total of nine greenfield expressways in Rajasthan, with a combined length of around 2,756 km. The government has set a target to complete five of these expressways by 2030, which will cover 1,361 km.
The five expressways targeted for completion by 2030 include:
- Jaipur-Jodhpur-Pachpadra Expressway
- Kotputli-Kishangarh Expressway
- Jaipur-Bhilwara Expressway
- Bikaner-Kotputli Expressway
- Beawar-Bharatpur Expressway
With the development of these expressways, Rajasthan is expected to witness enhanced road connectivity, reduced travel time, and improved economic opportunities. The Beawar-Bharatpur Expressway, in particular, is anticipated to play a key role in improving trade and transportation between the eastern and western parts of the state.
