Accused Of Raping Daughter, Thane Man Ends Life By Jumping In Front Of Train

The man was accused of raping his 11-year-old daughter after which an FIR was booked against him but hours later he jumped in front of a train and died.

A man allegedly died by suicide by after jumping in front of a train hours after an offence was registered against him for raping his 11-year-old daughter in Maharashtra’s Thane, said the police on Sunday. After a case was registered against him on October 26, the man was at large and was found dead on a railway track the same day, said an official, as per a PTI report. 

The accused, a 40-year-old autorickshaw driver, lived with his daughter in Badlapur while his wife was employed in Dubai for the last two years, senior inspector Arun Khsirsagar told the news agency. 

The accused allegedly raped his daughter between July 2022 and October this year. The incident came to the fore after the girl recently informed her grandmother about the incident and the same was communicated by her to the girl’s mother who arrived home a few days ago, he said. 

Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered against the accused  under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official added.

A manhunt was launched by the police against the man who fled home after the complaint was lodged and was subsequently found dead on the railway track the same day, he said.

The railway police have registered a case of accidental death, the official added.

In another case of death by suicide, a Border Security Force personnel shot himself with his service weapon in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, police said on Sunday.

As per an official, the incident took place on Saturday at a BSF camp in Sarangipal village under the Rowghat police station limits, around 200 km from the capital Raipur, according to another PTI report. 

“Constable Balmiki Sinha of BSF's 162nd battalion shot himself with an INSAS rifle at the barrack in the camp. On hearing the gunshot, his colleagues rushed to the spot and found him lying in the pool of blood,” the official said.
