Suzuki Starts Phasing Out Lets, Shifts Focus To 125cc Scooters

Shrinking sales over the past year seem to be the most likely reason for the scooter’s demise

  • The Suzuki Lets will be phased out due to dwindling sales, thanks to the increasing demand for 125cc scooters.
  • A select few Suzuki dealerships across India will continue selling the Lets based on customer demand.
  • There’s no official word from the manufacturer.

From our sources we have learnt that the Suzuki Lets will soon be phased out from the company’s lineup. Diminishing sales for the small capacity scooter over the past year could be the reason for this move. For instance, while the company managed to sell over 8,000 units between June to November 2017, it sold a little over 2,400 units in the corresponding duration last year. Out of which, the month of October and November together accounted for a total sales of only 8 units. That said, Suzuki will continue selling the Lets through select dealerships based on customer demand.

Over the past year, there has been a paradigm shift in the scooter segment. Essentially, customers in India are moving towards higher capacity scooters like the Access 125 and Burgman Street 125. To put things into perspective, Suzuki has managed to sell more than 40,000 units of the Burgman Street 125 since it was launched in July last year, while the Access remains the king of the 125cc segment.

Nevertheless, if you’re still planning to buy the Lets, it’s still up for grabs at select dealerships. It’s powered by a 112cc, single-cylinder, CVT engine that makes 8.6PS of power and 9Nm of torque. Additionally, the scooter comes with Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) which uses signals from different sensors to provide the perfect mixture of fuel and air to improve efficiency. As a result, the Lets has a company claimed fuel efficiency of 64kmpl.

It employs telescopic forks and a single shock at the rear to handle suspension duties. Braking is handled by 120mm drum brakes at the front and rear. Unfortunately, it misses out on a disc brake and CBS (Combined Braking system), even as an option. The scooter is available in three colour options - Orange/Matte Black, Glass Sparkle Black and Royal Blue/Matte Black.
