There have been a ton of rumours regarding a slightly bigger Gixxer in the works for India. And, with the recently leaked images of the engine, we were expecting the bike to be introduced in the Indian market well before anticipated. Unfortunately, though, we will have to wait a wee bit longer as our sources have confirmed that the bike will only be launched sometime around mid-2019

The bike which is likely to draw inspiration from the Haojue DR300 will give Suzuki enthusiasts a chance to upgrade to a higher capacity motorcycle without burning a hole in their pocket. While the smaller Gixxer 150 worked wonders for the brand, the quarter-litre offering should broaden the horizon even further with more power on tap within a familiar package.

Speaking of power, the Gixxer 250 will employ a single-cylinder, air- and oil-cooled, SOHC motor that is expected to produce around 22-25PS of power. It’s likely to feature fuel-injection as well. However, if the engine comes mated to a 5-speed or 6-speed transmission is yet to be revealed. Nonetheless, the setup should be enough to compete with its Japanese rival, the Yamaha FZ25.

Furthermore, much like its younger sibling, the Gixxer 250 is expected to get an all-digital instrument console. In terms of underpinnings, the Gixxer 250’s braking hardware may comprise of a disc setup at the front and rear with at least a single-channel ABS unit, considering the recent government safety norms. Suspension duties will be handled by conventional telescopic forks rather than USD’s to cut costs and an adjustable monoshock at the rear.

Expected to be priced around Rs 1.30 to Rs 1.45 lakh, the Gixxer 250 is positioned to eat into Yamaha’s quarter-litre space which the FZ25 currently occupies. Designed to appeal to the masses with accessible power on tap, the Gixxer 250 could just be perfect for everyday use.
