Spec Comparison: Maruti Suzuki Alto Vs Renault Kwid Vs Datsun redi-GO
Maruti Suzuki has launched the 2019 Alto facelift in the country. So we thought we’d compare it with its rivals in an on-paper battle to find out how it fares
Maruti Suzuki has launched a facelifted version of the 800cc Alto in India. Apart from losing ‘800’ from its moniker, the hatchback has received various other updates that the company hopes will keep it relevant until the new model arrives, probably around this year’s festive season. Key changes include the addition of a BS 6 compliant petrol engine and a whole host of new safety features. So how does the updated Alto compare to its rivals on paper? Find out below.
Dimensions
Longest: Renault Kwid
Widest: Renault Kwid
Tallest: Datsun redi-GO
Longest Wheelbase: Renault Kwid
Engine
Most powerful: Renault Kwid, Datsun redi-GO
Torquiest: Renault Kwid, Datsun redi-GO
Features
Infotainment
Maruti Suzuki has given the new Alto an audio system with USB and Bluetooth connectivity as standard. Sadly, it continues to miss out on a touchscreen. However, the company has offered a smartphone dock that allows you to pair your smartphone with the system. Now you can use the phone’s touchscreen to control navigation, telephony and audio. The new Alto also gets two front speakers as standard now.
The Kwid’s infotainment system is quite swanky for its class. You get a touchscreen infotainment system with Aux-In, USB and Bluetooth connectivity. If that wasn’t enough, it also gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay! Like the Alto, it too gets two speakers.
The redi-GO gets a bare bones audio system with Bluetooth connectivity. Datsun offers it with two speakers straight from the factory.
Safety
All three manufacturers offer ABS with EBD and a driver airbag as standard on their cars. Maruti, however, offers the Alto with the option of a passenger airbag on the lower variants, while it is standard on the top-spec variant. Both the Alto and the Kwid get a seatbelt reminder system for the driver and front co-passenger as well as a speed alert system. Datsun’s redi-GO doesn’t get these two features. However, they could be added soon to comply with the latest safety regulations. While Maruti offers the Alto with rear parking sensors, the Renault Kwid comes with a rear view camera.
Creature Comforts
All three cars here are offered with power steering, front power windows and manual AC.
Price
The redi-GO’s base variant is the most affordable of the lot, while the Kwid’s top-spec variant is the most expensive of the three. The Alto is priced in between the Renault and Datsun. And while its base-spec variant is the most expensive, its top-spec variant is the most affordable among the three.
All three cars also offered with a 1.0-litre petrol engine. However, as only the 800cc Alto has been updated, we have only considered 800cc versions of all three cars for the sake of this comparison.
