Harish Rawat Seeks His Expulsion From Congress After Being Accused Of Selling Tickets In Uttarakhand Polls
Harish Rawat is facing allegations of selling tickets for the assembly elections which the party lost badly.
New Delhi: Congress General Secretary and President of the Party Election Campaign Committee in Uttarakhand, Harish Rawat has sought his expulsion from the party on Tuesday.
Harish Rawat is facing allegations of selling tickets for the assembly elections which the party lost badly.
"The charges are serious. They become more serious considering the fact that the person against whom they have been levelled was chief minister, PCC president and AICC general secretary.
"Even the person levelling the allegations occupies a responsible position in the party. The charges have been levelled against me. I pray that I should be expelled from the party in the light of these charges," Rawat said in a Facebook post.
Earlier, the state Congress chief had claimed responsibility for the party's defeat in the recently concluded Uttarakhand Assembly elections. As the chairman of the Congress party's campaign committee, Rawat had apologized to every member of the working committee and the leadership.
Talking to news agency ANI, Rawat had also revealed that the party was hoping for victory in the state.

"All of us thought that we were winning in Uttarakhand... being the chairman of the Campaign Committee, I take responsibility for the defeat. I apologized to every member and leadership in the working committee. I have also apologized to the public before," said Rawat as quoted by ANI.
BJP has managed to retain its power in Uttarakhand by winning 47 seats. The Congress, which was relying on an anti-incumbency wave against the state government, won just 19 seats in the 70-member state assembly.
After the defeat of the Congress in the Uttarakhand assembly elections, a series of accusations and counter-allegations have started on each other.
