This might come as a surprise to most but what if we told you that Royal Enfield actually made some pretty powerful V-twins back in the 30’s. Though the manufacturer employs single-cylinder engines on most of its motorcycles today, its future plans of the J, P, Q, K platforms hints at bigger, badder bikes. And staying true to its plans, the Chennai-based manufacturer has unveiled its stunning new 838cc V-twin concept at EICMA 2018.

What the Concept KR essentially is, is a modern take on the original RE KX from 1938. Hinting at what’s in store for RE’s  future, the concept employs an 838cc, V-twin motor that gets air and oil cooling. The design comprises of an LED headlamp which has fork extensions that cover a front girder-type suspension. It gets a slender tank with a single, tan floating seat. The bike also features twin-stacked exhaust cans that sit to the right and adds visual weight at the rear, balancing its overall proportions. Then there’s the digital instrument console, a first for Royal Enfield.

Its split-cradle frame uses the engine as a stressed member. For suspension duties, the bike employs unconventional girder-type forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear placed right below the seat. Twin discs upfront paired with Bybre calipers and a single disc brake at the rear anchor the bike. The body-coloured alloys wheels come wrapped in Maxxis tyres.

While Royal Enfield has no plans of bringing this bike into production, it gives us a glimpse of what the future holds for the company. Presently though, the bikemaker is focussing its resources on the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650, which are due to be launched in India on 14th November 2018. Both the bikes come with 3-year warranty and are expected to be priced under Rs 3 lakhs.
