Royal Enfield 650 Twins Sales Report

Just how well are the Royal Enfield 650cc twins doing?

Royal Enfield 650 Twins Sales Report

It’s been a little over a month since the RE 650 twins were launched and we’re sure everyone’s eagerly waiting to find out just how well they’ve performed so far in terms of sales. Though the duo were expected to do extremely well considering its affordable price tag, both the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 have managed to rake in just 325 unit sales since its launch on 15 November. While that’s considerably less, the low sales number could have a couple of reasons behind it.

Could low sales volume be intentional, at least for the initial phase? A while back, CEO of the company Siddhartha Lal, promised to deliver a quality product during the twins’ official launch event. He said, “To keep quality in check, each bike undergoes six hours of inspection and passes a 1,000 point checklist.” And, the end product from our road test review certainly seems to live up to the expectations.

Secondly, though the Interceptor and Continental GT 650 were launched a little over a month ago, deliveries for the bikes only started towards the end of the month. Also, since it’s just the beginning of production, the company is bound to take some time to settle down and match demand. Last but not the least, interested customers may be waiting to see how the first couple of batches pan out in terms of quality and reliability. Which seems perfectly fair considering what happened with the Himalayan.

Nonetheless, even though the bikes have registered low sales in the month of November, we’re sure they’ll slowly and steadily gain momentum. Hell, even bikes like the KTM 390 Duke which has been around for over a year posted low sales of 239 units last month. And, with a starting price tag of Rs 2.4 lakh, the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 offer great value. We wouldn’t be surprised to see them becoming the highest selling bikes in the 500cc and above segment in India as the waiting period for the bikes currently is around three months.

Another positive is its 270 degrees, air- and oil-cooled, parallel-twin motor that left us awestruck during our road tests. Though a power output of 47PS and 52Nm may not seem like much, it's the vibe free engine and the way the power is delivered that leaves a lasting impression in everyone's heart. That said, only time will tell if RE’s 650cc twins manage to win the people over with their performance.
