RG Kar Rape-Murder: Mamata Banerjee Sends '5th & Final' Invite To Protesting Doctors For Talks At 5 PM Today

The doctors demand live streaming of the meeting, which the government refuses. The doctors' demands include punishment for those involved.

RG Kar Rape-Murder: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has again invited protesting junior doctors for talks at her residence in Kolkata, days after the protestors refused to hold a meeting with her over their demand to live telecast the meeting. "This is the fifth and final time we are reaching out to you for a meeting between the honourable Chief Minister and your delegates," the letter to the doctors said. West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Pant urged the doctors to meet Banerjee at her Kalighat residence for a discussion with an "open mind".
However, the government is persistent over not streaming the meeting live. "There will be no live streaming or videography of the meeting, given that the matter is sub judice in the highest court of the country. Instead, the minutes of the meeting will be recorded and signed by both parties," the letter read, adding that the minutes of the meeting will be recorded and signed by both parties.

Earlier, the doctor alleged that they had accepted all the conditions laid down by the state government but were turned down by the government at the last minute.

The doctors are adamant on their demand for a live streaming to let the people know about what is happening in the meeting. "We don't know what is their problem...We demand live streaming of the meeting...Our five demands are very justified...The public is supporting us because we are apolitical and we have not bent down to the pressures of the government...We are ready to compromise but if they don't listen to our demands then there is no point in calling us for a meeting," he said said.

What Are Doctors Demanding

  1. Punishment to all those involved in the rape and murder of the trainee doctor and those responsible for the destruction of evidence.
  2. Disciplinary action against Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
  3. Resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and Health Secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam.
  4. Adequate security arrangements made for healthcare workers.
  5. Eliminating 'threat culture' prevailing in government healthcare institutions.

Meanwhile, the replies of RG Kar Medical College's former principal Sandip Ghosh were found to be deceptive during the polygraph test and layered voice analysis, CBI officials said. The CBI is probing the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in the hospital on August 9. Abhijit Mondal, officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, has also been arrested in this case. CBI said Ghosh was in touch with the police officer and an advocate after the victim was found raped and murdered.
