New Delhi: In a marginal relief to the common man on Thursday, diesel prices were slashed by 15-17 paise across the metros but petrol prices remain unchanged. The price of diesel in the national capital was slashed to ₹ 73.40 per litre from ₹ 73.56 per litre, while petrol prices remained constant at Rs 82.08. As per the notification from Indian Oil Corporation, in the financial hub, Mumbai diesel prices were cut to ₹ 79.94 per litre from Rs 80.11 per litre even as the petrol price remained steady at ₹ 88.73. Domestic petrol and diesel prices vary from state to state as a result of value-added tax (VAT). Oil companies review the rates based on changes in international crude oil rates and the rupee-dollar foreign exchange rate, and implement any changes with effect from 6 am. In Delhi, petrol prices have witnessed a rise almost 14 times out of 19 days in Delhi. The price of petrol has gone up by a cumulative ₹ 1.65 per litre in the national capital during this period. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures inched up 3 cents, or 0.1 per cent, to $41.54 a barrel at 0115 GMT, while brent crude futures slipped 7 cents, or 0.2 per cent, to $44.36 a barrel.
