'Pervez Musharraf Not On Ventilator, Organs Malfunctioning': Family Amid Death Rumours

Pervez Musharraf Health: "Musharraf is critical as he is on a ventilator," Chaudhry, who was a minister in the Imran Khan government, told news agency PTI.

New Delhi: Former military dictator Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf's family on Friday dismissed the reports of his death doing rounds on the internet. "He is not on the ventilator. Has been hospitalized for the last 3 weeks due to a complication of his ailment (Amyloidosis). Going through a difficult stage where recovery is not possible and organs are malfunctioning. Pray for ease in his daily living," the family said from Musharraf's official Twitter handle.

"Musharraf is critical as he is on a ventilator," Chaudhry, who was a minister in the Imran Khan government, told news agency PTI. "I have just spoken to Gen Musharraf's son Bilal in Dubai who confirmed that he (Musharraf) is on ventilator."

However, a TV channel GNN claims that Musharraf was hospitalised due to heart and other ailments, after which he was put on a ventilator in Dubai. Musharraf, 78, ruled Pakistan from 1999 to 2008. Musharraf has been living in Dubai since March 2016.

Musharraf was the army chief of Pakistan during the Kargil war. Musharraf conducted a military coup in 1999 when Nawaz Sharif was in Sri Lanka. He later declared himself the President of Pakistan.

It was Pervez Musharraf who started the Kargil war in 1999 by keeping the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the dark. Not only this, he had also declared martial law in Pakistan after a coup as the army chief.

There was a military coup in Pakistan on 12 October 1999. In this bloodless revolution, Nawaz was arrested after hijacking Musharraf's plane coming from Sri Lanka and accusing him of spreading terrorism. He was later deported to Saudi Arabia along with 40 family members. Nawaz Sharif won the 1997 general elections and took over as the prime minister. Nawaz Sharif appointed General Pervez Musharraf as Chief of Army Staff.

When Musharraf was in Sri Lanka, Nawaz Sharif was removed from the post of Chief of Army Staff on the basis of suspicion. Sharif appointed General Aziz as Chief of Army Staff in place of Musharraf.
