Tamil Nadu: Parents Seek Action Against Man For Scolding Their Child With Caste Name

The parents alleged that a complaint was given to the police on August 25 but the police refused to register a case.

Chennai: The parents of a child, who was allegedly beaten and verbally abused with a casteist slur by a villager, have petitioned Villupuram MP Ravikumar to take action against the accused. The parents alleged that the police refused to take the complaint in Periyathachur police station in Tindivanam.

According to a report on ABP Nadu, a girl child of Nediyamozhiyanur village in Tindivanam district was looking for her mother Amudha and walking to the fields. While she was crossing a field owned by Jai, one Kathiravel, who was standing on the field allegedly started verbally abusing the girl with her caste name and hit her with a stick.

In the attack, the girl child swooned and two passersby Jayamala and Mariammal took the child to her father. Then, all the three of them took the girl to Mundiyambakkam Government College Hospital. The father Prabhakaran then filed a complaint in Periyathachur Police Station. However, the parents alleged that the complaint was given on August 25 and the police have been refusing to register a case.

Following this, Prabhakaran petitioned Villpuram SP Srinatha and complained to Villupuram MP Ravikumar.

In the complaint, he said, "My daughter was attacked in front of passersby Jayamala and Mariyammal and we took her to Mundiyampakkam government college hospital on August 25 at 6 pm. However, till now there has been no response to the petition and we think that our petition was not taken seriously since we belong to the Scheduled Caste community."

Prabhakaran also sought a complaint to be registered against the inspector and police personnel of the police station under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act for their negligence. He also requested the MP to conduct an enquiry with both the factions and take action against the people responsible for the wrong-doing.
