Nissan Introduces Kicks In China; Gets India-Centric Updates
Nissan Kicks is likely to be launched here in 2018
Nissan has introduced the Kicks compact SUV in China recently. It debuted in April last year for the Brazilian market. Though not confirmed for the Indian market, the Nissan Kicks is expected to be launched here in 2018 and will be placed above the Terrano in the Japanese automaker's Indian lineup. It will sit alongside the alliance partner Renault’s Captur, which is expected to be launched in the coming months.
The China-spec Kicks features an upgraded 1.5-litre engine (HR15), which produces 124PS and 147Nm, and is mated to Nissan’s X-Tronic CVT transmission. Compared to the one sold in Brazil, it gets additional goodies such as LED projector headlamps and an Apple CarPlay-equipped touchscreen infotainment system among others.
This China-spec model seems more fit for the Indian market as it will be a more premium product than the Terrano/Duster in the country.

Renault recently introduced a new 1.5-litre petrol in the Duster, which has replaced the old 1.6-litre motor (also powers the Kicks in Brazil). It is good for 106PS and 142Nm and is available with a CVT transmission along with a manual. The Terrano is also expected to receive this engine in the near future. We feel that the 124PS version of the motor makes more sense for the Captur and Kicks in India, doesn’t it? The diesel, on the other hand, is expected to be the 110PS version of the 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine that powers the Duster and the Terrano as well.
