New 2019 Maruti Wagon R Spotted With AMT Gearbox

The Wagon R will be available with two petrol engine options, both with AMT options

• New Wagon R will get a touchscreen infotainment system

• The new 1.2-litre engine in the Wagon R is also present in the likes of the Swift, Ignis and Baleno.

• All variants of the new Wagon R will be available with the AMT gearbox, apart from the base LXi variant.

We had reported earlier that the new Wagon R will be available with an AMT gearbox. Now, a video has emerged on the internet showing the new tall boy hatch with the said AMT gearbox instead of the manual.

The new Wagon R will come with the 1.0-litre petrol engine available with the current Wagon R, and a new and bigger 1.2-litre engine too. Both engines can be had with the AMT gearbox.

It can be had in three trims : LXi, VXi and ZXi. While the 1.0-litre engine will only be offered with the AMT in the VXi trim, the bigger 1.2-litre motor can be had with the AMT in VXi and ZXi trims. The LXi trim can only be had with a manual transmission.

The car pictured in the video features a 7.0-inch touchscreen and thus we peg it to be the top-spec ZXi trim, with the 1.2-litre engine.

The new Wagon R will go up against the Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and Datsun GO. The current WagonR sells between Rs 4.15 lakh and Rs 5.39 lakh. The current WagonR is sold in four different variants with an AMT option, priced between Rs 4.88 lakh and Rs 5.36 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi). Expect the new WagonR to sell around the same price point, although the new 1.2-litre engine will command a bit of a premium.
