Mumbai's Iconic Mohammed Ali Road Misses The Buzz Of Ramadan For The First Time In 250 Years

The Covid-19 outbreak has taken away the charm of the road which is a mecca for food lovers, especially during Ramadan.

Ramadan 2020: It is for the first time in 250 years that Mumbai’s iconic Mohammed Ali Road’ is devoid of the light and buzz created by the Ramadan festivities as a result of Covid-19 outbreak which has forced people to remain indoors. As the holiest month of the Islamic calendar, Ramadan commences, the road comes alive with shops lined on both sides serving almost 400-odd lip-smacking non-vegetarian dishes and around 100 delectable varieties of desserts. Thousands of people throng the road to enjoy the food and delicacies served during Ramadan. People from various regions come to enjoy the sight and the buzz around the Holy month. However, this year is different as the road wears a deserted look because no shops are open or people are seen on the iconic road. The Covid-19 outbreak has taken away the charm of the road which is a mecca for food lovers, especially during this holy month of Ramadan when the road is buzzing with people. Not just common man but the iconic road is visited by Bollywood celebrities who come to enjoy the food and fervour. It also attracts locals, photographers, bloggers, vloggers, international tourists who come to capture the essence of the Holy month observed by Muslims. In fact, Mohammed Ali Road not only showcases delicacies but also displays the undying spirit of brotherhood and solidarity. It was clearly demonstrated after the road remained open even after the 1993 serial bomb blasts on March 12. Of all the states in India, Mumbai has seen the highest number of Covid-19 cases which touched 6,430. India total number of cases have crossed 23,077-mark  and 718 deaths so far. It seems that even after the lockdown is lifted, it will still take long before the road springs back to life.
