VIDEO: Monsoon Arrives In Kerala; IMD Issues Yellow Alert For 9 Districts
In what will be a relief for farmers, the monsoons have arrived in Kerala. he Department had forecasted that South-West Monsoon Season will begin from June 1. A yellow alert has been issued for nine districts in the state.
New Delhi: Monsoons has arrived in Kerala and the state received heavy rainfall in several places. India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted a timely arrival of the southwest monsoon. The Department had forecasted that South-West Monsoon Season will begin from June 1. The department had also issued a yellow alert for nine districts. According to a report by ANI the alert has been issued for the next 2 days and has been given for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram and Kannur districts. Out of these, the alerts for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kasaragod will remain till June 2. For Kannur and Kasaragod the alert will continue till June 3.
“Heavy rainfall is predicted, and isolated areas are expected to receive 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm rain in 24 hours. The yellow alert is meant to warn the public and concerned officials of the situation.” Said Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA).
The authority has also warned people living in areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides and said that special precautions need to be taken in case of strong winds and rain. Those in the coastal areas should also take adequate precautions. According to reports, monsoon may arrive in Delhi by June 30.
The IMD has also warned of a cyclone in the Arabian sea. It is being predicted that the cyclone will become dangerous and violent in the next 24 hours and is bound to make a landfall in Gujarat on June 3 leading to heavy rainfall in Gujarat and Maharashtra.
